D
eveloping good working relationships with family members is pivotal to
the success of any community. Indeed, the RCFE regulations are replete
with requirements of communicating with “responsible persons” (usually, but
not always, a family member). For example, Title 22 Section 87457 requires that
the resident’s responsible person be interviewed along with
the resident. Section 87467 requires that the licensee
arrange a meeting with the resident and the resident’s
representative within two weeks following
admission to develop a service plan for
the resident. Section 87463 requires that
the responsible person be notified of
changes in condition and meet with the
licensee.
